In the area of Guatemala`s City garbage dump, Byoearth and Junkabal are working together to eradicate extreme poverty through vermiculture. The accelerated urbanization process in Guatemala, industrial growth and changing consumption patterns have led to a disorganized growth on solid waste generation and management. Sixteen communities suffer daily the negative impacts of such activity. With the support of Fundación Junkabal, we use the appropriate infrastructure to transfer knowledge on vermiculture, entrepreneurship and integral moral values, to improve the quality of life for women who struggle every day to survive and raise their family. Currently, 45 women participate in the project "Fertilize Your Future" and proved to be the best vermiculturist of Guatemala. In 2010, we have diversified the production of fertilizers and ventured into productive chains with organic products and recycled bags, along with many other initiatives supported by the Istmo University in Guatemala.
